England is split into nine regions for administrative purposes - we are in the North East region. Until recently the regions had little power or influence. However, this is changing and even though we decided against an elected regional assembly, more power is passing to the regions.

The regional development agency for the region is ONE North East and they are now responsible for tourism.  They are very active in supporting cycle tourism through the work of Sustrans and others. A new regional cycle tourism guide has been produced - available here.
